　　【词源解析】de-强调，vote-发誓，来自 vow，拟声。我们说的选举/投票-vote 也同出一源，投票前需要发誓以示真诚。

　　differentiate 区分，区别 v. show sth to be different (from sth else)

　　dimension 维，尺寸 n. measurement of any sort

　　diminish 变小 v. become smaller or less; decrease

　　discrete 离散的，不连续的 adj. separate; distinct

　　【词源解析】这个词有点难理解。dis-分开，crete-区分、辨别、判断，和 crisis-危机同源;crisis-危机可以理解为是判断失误，或者说是不能正确区分对错，不能明辨是非，危机就产生了。cret-作为词根，最初表示“separate-分开”，接着有了“判断-judge”的含义，判断/辨别就是要把好坏善恶分开。最后引申到“确信-sure”，这样就好理解 certain 和 crisis 其实也是同源的了。

　　【词源解析】dis-分开，stinct-=sting-刺，来自 stick;把刺分开，最初指区分某些东西，可以区分的就是明显的。Stick-最原始是表示“尖”的东西，刺是尖的，人们用尖尖的东西可以把东西订在木头上，进而引申出了“订”的含义了，“坚持”就是信念牢牢地“订”在心里面我们用 2 个熟悉的同源词来巩固这个词根：ticket 和 style。Ticket 最初是表示“订”，最初是指订在门上或者墙上公示给别人看的小纸条，后面引申为“门票”;古罗马人是用“尖”　头铁笔在蜡板上写字的，要写得好，就需要有驾驭铁笔的能力，style(文体、文风)，其实　也就是他驾驭钢笔的能力。
