　　在写作过程中有三个步骤是文章的核心内容：第一个确定主题句，第二个步骤解释原因(分论点)，第三个举例论证。通过这样一层层地展开，就能够最终将自己的观点解释清楚，从而更清楚地表达自己的观点。

　　首先，确定主题句(topic sentence )

　　所谓主题句，就是写作的核心和主旨，也是考生需要在首段提出的观点。例如：“Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most business people are only motivated by the desire for money.”这个题目中，考生可以选择同意或者是反对题目的观点来作答。这里，如果是反对题目的观点的话，考生就可以确定主题句为“Most business organizations exist to make a profit，but it would be wrong to say that business people are motivated purely by the desire for greater wealth”，从而提出自己反对的观点。

　　其次，解释原因(explanation )

　　考生在上面提出了自己的观点，那么为什么要提出这样的观点，提出观点的原因是什么呢?这就是在文章主体段，也就是我们常说的中间段落要完成的任务。在这个部分，一般会运用3个分点来解释主题句的原因。还是以上面的题目为例，这里的解释原因就可以用：

　　很多成功的企业有着自己的社会职责。

　　An established enterprise has environmental responsibilities.

　　对于企业而言，对保护环境有职责。

　　这样三个并列的分论点来解释主题句的内容，从而将文章由一条主线，变成三条主线，拓展了文章的内容。

　　最后，举例论证(exemplification)

　　只有主题句和解释原因的分论点，只能给读者一个大概的印象和解释，并没有细节支撑。而对于托福写作而言，评分标准中特别指出了细节的重要性。因此，考生在托福写作的时候举例论证是不可或缺的。
